INTRODUCTION
This document describes functionality and design versions of the connection, design data and tips.
MAIN SECTION
The shaft-hub connection (with or without a key) eliminates the clearance between the shaft and the part’s hub and distributes the transmission force over the entire surface through strong clamping of the shaft, whilst with the key connection the transmitted forcesĀ are concentrated on a limited area only (key contact surfaces). With the addition of a key, the connection becomes more reliable at high torque and impact loads. The usage of shaft-hub connection reduces cost because the shaft diameter can be designed smaller, the keyless assembly is ideal for part angular calibration or synchronization with other parts on the same shaft. It reduces machining costs, eliminates all the operations for axial fixing of the part and (in some cases) the keyway seats machining. Simple mounting and dismounting allows easy and quick changing of the parts fitted on the shaft. The high pressure between the contact surfaces avoids rust.
