Methods for correcting wrong center distance between pin holes |

These methods are not suitable for every situation. Only when the need for precision is moderate or less and the strength criterion is non a prerequisite, we can use one of the below methods.

As we can see from the above figure, there are three methods, three alternatives to solve the problem.
-
The two of them are identical - usage of the same pin and manufacturing of an insert. Their difference is the insert size. If we use a large diameter insert we can drill new larger center holes at the correct center distance that overlap the old ones. If the size of the insert must remain small we can drill the existing center holes larger, fit-in the inserts and drill the new center holes on them. At first method the outside diameter of the insert will be concentric with the correct center hole and at the second one, eccentric.
-
The third method uses different pin. The new pin is not a standard one and will have two different diameters. One diameter must be large enough to overlap the wrong center hole's diameter, and the small one will be the same with the diameter of the initial pin in order to fullfil the assembly requirements.
All three methods are simple and cheap. The insert could press fitted or bonded at the assembly.
