Pin hole location

by Lampros Georgiou - 23.12.2005

pin hole location

Many designers prefer to place the pin hole exactly in the middle of the shaft's length for the reason of symmetry or strength of the mating part. These reasons are logical when the shaft is not under loads, or it is under light loads. If the pin (under moderate to heavy loading conditions) is located near the shaft's shoulder then the effectiveness (the strength) of the remaining portion of the shaft would be substantial less than if it was located near the end. This design solution will be most effective if we will locate the pin near the end.
