Linear micro adjustment

linear micro adjustments

In order to provide linear fine adjustment of a shaft, two taper holes are machined at the same vertical plane. Two socket set screws are assembled with the shaft and the shaft base (not shown in the figure). These two set screws are in a different center distance (larger) than the center distance of the taper holes of the shaft. When the lower screw is tighten and the upper one is released the shaft moves downwards. The opposite action moves it upwards. This fine adjustment depends on angle and depth of the taper hole. The set screw must have the same taper angle and an outside diameter of two thirds maximum of taper nominal diameter at the surface of the shaft. At final position we tight both set screws in order to fix the shaft.
