Dial gauge (comparator) stand error

When using a dial indicator with a self made or commercial dial gauge (comparator) stand, it is important to place the first vertical to the measurable surface. If the dial indicator positioned with a small angle (due lack of squareness), its reading will not be the true dimension.

For instance if the indicator is placed with an angle of 20° degrees and during measurements the reading for a part will be 0.080mm. In this case the true dimension will be:
